I understand the need to keep the site running however what gets me is the "recurring" subscription if it was once a year i'd be fine but i don't have my own credit card anymore and i don't feel like having recurring payments due on someone elses card. Also for essentially 36 a year i can A) upload photos (like photobucket) and access 3 threads.

The information on the PAC is invaluable, however i'm a broke ass college student and on top of that all the other reasons add up.

I paid simply because I like this site and am a heavy user.  It's just like a donation. ;)

Considering 90% of registered members are luker (never posted or only posted once or twice), I think all the report should only be able to seen by paid members.  But I understand that there are young and active members who can't afford much, so there should be a student discount or something to help them join.
And also there are some expert anglers on this site who're here only to help others and share reports.  And I understand these people won't see any point paying money to help others.  But they are the kind of people who is more valueable than anyone else on this site and I really hope they will stay or better yet subscribe.

Just my thoughts. ;)

My issue is that there's no value added for me to get access to member only forums. Even if I did pay I'm not gonna post any more reports than I do now because I still don't feel comfortable posting most things that anybody who can pay 3 dollars a month can see. I really also don't appreciate the not-so-subtle insinuation that I am lazy or cheap for not signing up. That's not very motivating either.

I too, use this site heavily and am grateful for the information that is available. It has provided me with local angling information that has been invaluable.

If you are a frequent user and can afford to subscribe then by all means do. If you can't at the present time, that is totally understandable. We are all at different stages of our lives and each has unique obligations. Each of us has to do what we feel is right for ourselves and our families. I actually don't care that I'm a Club Member and if there is someone else out there that can use my monthly subscription then I give Louis the right to transfer my subscription to that individual. For me, as Aki mentioned, it is simply a donation. I do care that I'm part of group of anglers (PAC) that I highly respect.

I'd add my own comment but George has already covered my thoughts in his post. The investment to me was a no brainer...I get a lot more from this site than I do the myriad of magazines I subscribe to and consider it a donation more than anything else. As for status, anyone who knows me knows that I couldn't care less. It is because of this site that I have gotten into more cool fishing, both far and local, with some of the best fishermen around. I have learned tons and hopefully have helped others get on some more fish along the way. To each his own, everyone's situation is different. Who knows, next month that $3 could mean a lot more to me, though let's hope that is not the case for everyone who is any part of this club.

I see it as a donation.

Since I put it all together, I'll just say, I don't want anyone to feel badly about anything and that isn't why I came up with this. I chose $3 because I hope that is just right to keep it small to keep this a real club and offer some privacy to those who opt in. I am really thankful that the members only section already started producing some networking between people that may not have teamed up in the same way without it.

I would also like to point something out since we are talking incentives... What is  my incentive is to keep this site running? Besides costing $100 or so a year, I spend countless hours figuring out how to set up all this shit, giving people technical help etc... I spend twice as much time on that stuff as I do reading or writing on here... and these days probably even more time than I spend fishing. Moreover, what incentive would I have to set up a secret area for anyone to use for free?  =) I did it all this though, for years. I used to accept donations but the people who gave the most often were rarely the people taking the most and that always made me uncomfortable. I like the idea of having a place for people who care the most, and the others that just talk shit or use other people's effort can stay out of there. I would like to think that a number of people made life long friends or learned enough on this site to be worth $3 a month. I certainly have. If someone doesn't think so then that part of the forum is just not for them.

Also, I never kept a list of the people who donated, but if you were one of those people, I'd give you a pass for a while if you want. Let me know.

t shirts, stickers and all that stuff from now on will also probably be just for members. or it will be at a discount for them...

I see it as a donation as well.  Louis and Matt put a lot into this site and I think they deserve some kick back from us.  I don't intend to post any sercret spots or anything like that on the paying members section, but I think it will turn out to be a good thing for the frequent posters and lead to more people meeting and fishing, etc.

So I ask, just because I can't produce a credit card that can be billed once a month and since there is no option for a lump sum 6 month or year payment that the forum "isn't" for me? Ouch.

Can't paypal be amended in someway to allow a lump sum payment or even use the "donation" option to pay off months at a time without having to have recurring payments?

Wait, what is the question?

I have been avoiding that kind of thing because organizing it would be a nightmare... Butif it has robe that way we could work something out... But... Paypal attaches to bank accounts not credit cards. So if you could write a check you could use paypal.
