I met the guy running this a few weeks ago. Seems pretty awesome. There's a party at Johnny Brenda's too. Registration isn't open yet, but there is apparently some good prizes.

The first annual Philadelphia Striped Bass Derby is a catch and release fishing tournament on
the banks of the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. The event runs from May 1st-June 4th. The goal
of the Derby is to create a fun angling event for Philadelphia residents, raise awareness of the
importance of clean local rivers, and to build community through fishing. The Derby’s focus on
the striped bass is meant to highlight the role that our local rivers play for a fish that migrates
from North Carolina to Maine and back every year!

The event is affiliated with the Tidal Schuylkill Festival, which includes a number of events
spotlighting the recreational opportunities available on the lower Schuylkill River.

Registration:
Registration opens April 15th 2011 and will remain open throughout the length of the Derby.

Registration can be completed online, via mail, or in person at one of our events.

Online Registration

Registration fee is $25, payable via Paypal. If you wish to register via check or another method, please contact Jason: jason at phillystripedbassderby.com.

Entry fee includes T-Shirt and Official Derby measuring tape.

20% of each entry fee is being donated to the Delaware Riverkeeper.

They definitely blew it with the dates.  April is the best month, and the fishing quickly goes downhill through May.

On the website, the rules are fairly unclear.  I am assuming it is based on length and not weight.  They seem to be encouraging C&R.  So, I guess it will be photo based?

It's all on there, just broken up on different pages. They supply an official tape measure to be used in video or photo submissions. C&R is encouraged, but it's ok to take fish in the slot.

Just wanted to let folks know that registration is now open. In response to April being the better month...we specifically scheduled the derby for May in order to make it post-spawn. Hope everyone participates, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. We'll be at Shadfest in Penn treaty park next week signing people up and generally hanging out at our table. Come on out!

There was a booth today at the Fishtown Shad Festival at Penn Tready Park. I signed up.

Fishing is now open (May 1st-June 5th), and registration is open until May 8th.  Let me know if you have any questions on the tournament format or registration.

Hi All,

We have extended registration until May 15th. You can register online and we can drop the stuff off to you, or we can meet and you can pay in person. We have yet to have a striper posted, so if you feel like you could reel one in and win it, now is the time to enter.

Thanks,

Len
