Vance Worley is a stud.

Yes, he is certainly our Wild Card... we already had four aces.

I'm not a baseball fanatic, but I'm certainly enjoying this season. I've watched more baseball this year than the past 10 years combined. The only downside is that I will truly be disappointed if they don't win the World Series. Hard to believe I just wrote that considering I've been a Philadelphia sports fan all of my life.

Nice thread. I guess in the wake of last night's game, how could you not re-start the Phillies discussion? Chase Utley is a beast!

GC, I think everyone in the city expects nothing less than a WS ring this season (and yeah we are all raised to expect our teams to ultimately fall short of any championships, at least I am).

I believe a big trade or two is critical. We need Hunter Pence or Michael Cuddyer. But I heard a report that the Astros shot down a proposed deal packaged around Singleton and Cosart (our two biggest minor league prospects) in return for Pence. I doubt Ruben can come up with a better offer than that, unless he throws in Worley. And I doubt the Twins will let Cuddyer go, since they are starting to play a little better ball.

We also could use another solid arm in the bullpen. A guy like Mike Adams would be perfect.

Lets see what Ruben pulls off this year, if anything.

If it were me, Vance Worley and all minor leaguers are fair trade bait. Domonic Brown is still untouchable, too much invested in this guy and way too early to count him out. We also need him for this WS run, in my opinion.

Tonight's game against SF with Lincecum on the mound and Beltran in the field could provide some serious trade motivation for Amaro. Carlos Quentin is another possible target for a bat. Having Mike Adams in the pen would be sick, but the Padres would be stupid to get rid of him AND Bell.

I have a feeling Amaro will pull off a good trade...just a matter of when.

BJ upton and Josh Hamilton will both be free agents next year too. Hamilton would be a great addition, but Upton would probably be easier to get. The good news is the rangers are broke, so there is still an outside chance they may let him go a little easier to make room on their payroll.

bj upton....no thanks. i dont think he would ever be a phillies clubhouse fit.

josh hamilton....now that would be fun. but thats probably a pipe dream. if we get pence now and sign hamilton next year, then our outfield could be victorino, pence and hamilton. :D

i have a feeling we are going to land carlos quentin. he's a big right handed bat an all, but he not a good outfielder. pence is the guy.

Melke Cabrera, and Ryan Ludwig are possibles too. The astros GM said if they couldn't reach a deal for Pence wth the phils by Friday, they were going to move on. We should know soon.

Ryan Ludwig?! ugh, no way!!

Melky, not that much better then what we already got, but I'd consider it if the asking price was low.

It sounds like the Astros want Brown in the deal for Pence. Hold strong Ruben. Ed Wade is dreaming. He will give in. Dont let Brown walk. :)

I could see Ludwick coming packaged in a deal along with Adams.

Granted it's a contract year for him, but Cabrera's batting .297 this season with 12 HRs. Not too shabby, and the Phils can pick him up without having to offer him arbitration. He might be the best fit if Pence goes elsewhere.

As far as Brown is concerned, I wouldn't feel terrible if they traded him. I know he's too young to say he isn't going to amount to anything yet, but he just doesn't seem like has the heart. It could just be his long legs, but he just doesn't look like he's hustling to me on a lot of plays.

Roy Halladay may be looking at his second NL Cy Young Award. Clayton Kershaw and Cliff Lee hot on his trail.

Phillies are looking solid at this point. Some keys...Lets stay healthy for the remainder of the regular season (and through the playoffs). Lets see Bastardo get over his dead arm condition and regain his confidence. Lets see Oswalt reach his top form in time for the post season.

I definitely think 105 wins is achievable, but there is no reason to beat up the regulars to rack up the wins. You want to see them go into the playoffs hot, so I say give some of the regulars rest now, and then focus on finishing up the season strong.

I will likely be at one of the last regular season home games next week. Come one October baseball!

I'll be there Monday and Thursday. Give me a call if you are there.

GO Phils! I'll also be at NLDS Home Game 1, NLCS Home Game 3, and WS Game 7. I plan on seeing another Doc Halladay NLDS No Hitter, a Phillies NLCS clincher and a Phillies World Series clincher.

I'll be there next wednesday, I think. I don't have any playoff tickets yet, but that doesn't mean I won't be at a few of the games. I unfortunately witnessed Howard's bat on the shoulder to end the season last year. There will be no visiting team celebrating on our mound in 2011.

What kind of turn coat grows up in the Philly area and roots for the Yanks? Lemme guess, you like the Cowboys too?

I'd love to see a rematch with the Yankees.

Those phils are really startin to shine now. Can't beat a potential wildcard team. Can't wait to see those balls flying out of that park when Halladay pitches against some big bats on the yankees.
