My summer vacation officially ended today, but it ended with a BANG!

Staked out in my kayak I was throwing a spinner bait when all of a sudden it stopped spinning. I knew I had something BIG. My first guess was a big channel cat or bowfin. The fish was working hard swimming in and out along the weedline. He swung by my yak and then exploded over my shoulder... it was amazing... his 30 inch body cleared the water vertically by at least a foot. I thought he shook the hook, but then pressure came back onto the rod. I thought it was a BIG bowfin. He swung right around the yak and exploded again almost right in front of me. It was a large snakehead. I knew I had to get to the shoreline if I was going to land him. I tried to steer him into deeper water, but he burrowed into the hydrilla. I pulled my stakeout pole out of the muck and maneuvered my yak towards the bank. As soon as I was in thigh deepwater, I bailed from the yak and fought him onto the bank. What an adrenaline rush!!!

Matt... my recent snakeheads have not been on Joe's Flies, but rather on an elongated beaded inline spinner bait with a willow leaf silver blade and brown/yellow long bucktail... custom made by a friend of mine. I've certainly caught them on Joe's Flies in the past, but I've caught more on Zman chatterbaits and this custom inline spinner this season.

I'm back to school now, but we'll figure out a time.

Go for it Matt... For me the month of September has been a productive Snakehead month the past couple of years. I'm hoping that trend continues this year.
