Do you know which Okuma reel is on that combo...Avenger, perhaps? I am looking at getting a 10 or 11' bait stick and another reel to go with it. I have had good luck with both shimanos and Penns in the past but have seen some nicely priced Okumas out there. I am a little leery though as I had an Okuma reel fail me last year on a nice musky in the Fall. The composite got weak and the reel literally got wobbly at the seat when I was playing that fish. It was a 30 series and definitely matched up with the line and rod. I have been paranoid about Okuma ever since.

NO Tom, the Okuma I purchased was a SENTARA. I'm telling you just go over to Dicks and just put it in your hand. You can not believe the balance this has for a 10ft combo. The 8 is just as good. I clean and lube my gear after every trip. The reel is a match to the rod. It also is a Sentara. Well worth the money.

Hi Matt, just about all my fishing is on the surf down in OC and Sea Isle beaches. Corson's inlet, Townsends inlet is another nice spot. Strathmere is always a good spot as well. My Wife's Rod & Reel Repair Shop on Sea Isle Blvd just off of RT9 is a nice place to get fresh bait and equipment. I get all my reals spunn every season. Some things are a little bit higher than your big chain stors. As far as rods and reels. I have always used penn till this year. I broke down a baught a Okuma 10 ft combo. I did a lot of research on it. loved it from day 1 of use went out and purchased its baby brother the 8ft. The 10ft is spun with 20lb and 8ft with 14. In 35yrs fishing on the surf I have never used anything over 20lb test. Except for when im fishing shark then I go 40 and above. The Okuma is so well balanced I can't begin to tell you. Just go to Dicks and check it out for yourself. You will thank me. You can even use the rods off the sure of Del river. I do. Use 8ft for carp and big cats. Great action on the rods. They are not expensive. I got the 10ft on sale for 99.00 had a 20 dollar off coupon paid 79.00. the 8ft was on sail for 79 had another 20 dollar coupon got it for 59. They cast a mile without effort. Just remember to get over the brake of the waves you will need to get wet. Good luck. I will be down just about every weekend. I have a place in Echo Farm Camp ground. Just outside Sea Isle.

I am 42 years young, love to fish salt and fresh warter. I live in south philly. I have been fishing just about all my life. I found this site when I was looking for somewhere to vent over the closing of Race st pier to anglers. When I am not at work or on the baseball field or soccer field I can be found on the river or on a beach fishing. That's not to say I don't go fishing on my lunch brakes at work. B)
